The National Consumer Summit

Held on 26 June in Canberra, the National Consumer Summit was an opportunity for Dementia Australia to test and refine the initial perceptions gathered from the focus groups.

Forty-five Dementia Advocates (people living with dementia and carers) participated in the summit. The event was well attended by industry leaders from Leading Aged Services Australia (LASA), Aged and Community Services Australia, The Aged Care Guild, the Department of Health who were invited as observers.

The event generated a huge amount of discussion throughout the day, with people living with dementia, their families and carers sharing what quality dementia care looked like to them.

The draft communique was overwhelmingly ratified by the attendees. After the Summit the Communique was presented to the federal government and Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner in July 2019.
