Relationships, Intimacy and Dementia: Coping with Challenges

This session provides information on how relationships, intimacy and sexuality is affected by dementia including changed sexual behaviours, loss of inhibitions and managing sexual behaviours.

Dementia Australia's facilitators have specialist dementia knowledge, skills and experience. This session is delivered interactively, you will be encouraged to share your experiences alongside other participants giving you an opportunity to develop new support networks.

You will gain knowledge in:

  • how dementia can change closeness and relationships
  • distinctions between changes in closeness and other behaviour changes
  • challenging behaviours and strategies to cope with these changes.

Suitable for: Family carers and family members of people living with dementia. 

This session will benefit people caring for or supporting a family member who has dementia. This session is not suitable for people living with dementia. 

Dementia Australia may facilitate groups for this session that are gender and relationship specific. 

This session is not suitable for professional carers or people employed in the health or aged care industries. The resources, content and delivery will not meet the needs of professionals.
