The contribution of Western Australian native plant species to water repellency

Soil hydrophobicity is reported to vary under different vegetation types, and in different soil environments (e.g. pH, soil texture, total organic carbon, and microbial activity). Organic compounds, such as fatty acids and non-polar waxes, are understood to coat soil surfaces, creating hydrophobic barriers that prevent water penetration.  This project investigated links between soil hydrophobicity and a range of Australian native species at a bushland site in Kings Park, Western Australia.
